The theme for National Numeracy Day this year is 'Count on Your Community'.
You are not alone when it comes to improving your numeracy. Millions of people across the UK lack confidence when it comes to numbers. But that can change and a bit of mutual encouragement and support from your community can make a world of difference.
On Wednesday 20 May 2026, join thousands of communities for a Big Number Natter to build brighter futures for all through number know-how.
You will immediately receive:
- A toolkit to help you and your community take part.
- Access to free, helpful resources to start improving your numeracy.
- Schools will get access to loads of free curriculum-linked Family Maths Toolkit resources for use at school or to send home.
Nearer the time:
- Schools will get a range of exciting on-demand resources and full supporting material to help them take part.
- You will be the first to know about resources, activities and events for the day.

What is National Numeracy Day?
National Numeracy Day is the UK’s only campaign dedicated to improving everyday maths. Each May, individuals, schools and organisations across the country come together to help children and adults feel more confident with numbers at work, at home and at school.
The campaign raises awareness of the importance of numeracy and signposts free tools and resources that help people take practical steps to improve. To get resources for schools or adults, sign up and join in.

The Number Heroes competition is back!
This year our Number Heroes drawing competition returns with a brilliant brand-new theme: How do people use numbers in your neighbourhood, club or community?
We’re inviting children aged 3–13, as well as all children and young people in receipt of SEN support or an EHCP, to take part. It’s free to enter, packed with fantastic prizes for pupils and schools, and a brilliant way to spark conversations about how numbers matter in the world around us.

For schools and children
- Live Lesson with Times Tables Rockstars and Rotimi Merriman-Johnson aka Mr MoneyJar - Starts 9.30am 20 May
- BBC CBeebies Numberblocks have a fabulous karaoke song and worksheets for younger children
- Ambassador Bobby Seagull and Susan Okereke are providing lesson plans and lesson starter videos for ages 4-14.
- Get creative with our Number Heroes Competition and win a prize worth £1000 for your school. For ages 3-13.
For adults
- The #BigNumberNatter is a nationwide invitation to connect with others and share how we really feel about numbers. Follow the hashtag on social media for insirational content and stories. There are also downloadable resources from our online toolkit to help you run your own number natter.
- Your 1-hour Number Confidence Reset is a free, live webinar aimed at adults and there's NO MATHS involved - Starts 12.30pm on 20 May.
- The National Numeracy Challenge is a free, online way for you to check and improve all the maths skills you need in daily life. Over half a million adults have signed up. Why not give it a try?
